News Bulletin : No 1, October 2016

Visitors galore! – In just 3-months since the formal opening by TV Presenter James May, over 2,000 visitors have made the journey to our Leiston, Suffolk premises to view the all-new David Silver Honda Collection. From Malaysia, Germany, Denmark and The Netherlands and from across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland visitors have travelled far, and from their comments have been extremely impressed with the display.

Press coverage – A very pleasing array of press coverage from the formal launch in June has been found in nearly all of the regular motorcycle publications as well as a full-page in The Daily Telegraph, plus coverage in The Sun, The Mirror and on the Henry Cole TV Show!

Comments cards – All visitors are encouraged to complete a comment card and from these we have been able to gauge first reactions and look to make any changes as may be required. Whilst the collection and presentation have been much admired and the free coffee much appreciated we have for example now added a jacket/helmet area and started to enhance the local directional signage to the museum. We will continue to monitor the comment cards on a regular basis.

Website – For all information (opening times, location etc.) relating to the museum please do visit www.davidsilverhondacollection.co.uk

New models arrived – Just arrived from the USA are three additional Honda’s to the Collection and they are already on display. A very early production (Frame No 100207) 1964 CB77 (305cc twin) with only 283 miles from a full-restoration! A 1976 CB750A Hondamatic and a rare late production 1973 CB350G with front disc brake.

Adding additional models – Even with over 150 different classic Honda bikes on display, there remain a number of gaps to fill and over time the collection will continue to be enhanced as additional pre 1990 Honda models are sourced.

Souvenirs – One such observation from the Comment Cards is a request for visitor souvenirs and as we send this bulletin various products are being considered for early availability.

New! Guide Book – Work has already started on a comprehensive 100-page A4 size glossy Guide Book to the Collection, which will cover the history of Honda and details of each of the Honda bikes on display. The collectors’ book will be available in two versions; a regular soft-cover book at £10.00 and a limited print run hard-cover book with sleeve, coffee-table book style, at £25.00. The new books will be available from February 2017 and are available to pre-order now online at www.davidsilverspares.co.uk

Overview – Commenting on the launch and initial visitor reaction David Silver said: “I could not have wished for a better launch and such positive reaction from the media and our first visitors. I look forward to welcoming further visitors and working to continually enhance the presentation”.
